from my examination of historical photos, Gunter and Kilby were never co-located.
  • Underground Tunnel, DM (guest) wrote 7 years ago:
I don't think this is accurate. The old Kilby Prison was not located where this apparent tunnel terminates to the north.

my dad was a corrections officer at the time this movie was filmed. I grew up at what is now called the red eagle honor farm. I remember when they filmed this movie. it was a big thing at the time. i go back to this site all the time trying to relive my childhood. i remember the cars they brought in on trailers. they were all old.not sure if you still follow this thread, but if you do i would love to hear from you. it is so much a part of my past life. i bought my dad a dvd of the movie for his last birthday. he remembers all of it.

I lived near gunter field and just a few months prior to ww2 I saw a trainer crash killing the pilot. I went to the crash site but I am sorry for the bad memories.

These are the pads where pickle vats stood. Many of the vats were made of redwood planks bound together with hoops. They looked like miniature versions of old-fashion water tanks. When Whitfield Pickle went under, my father bought a great deal of the salvaged redwood. Unfortunately, we discovered that wood that has soaked in brine for decades will corrode nails & screws in short order. We could not use the wood for any load-bearing purpose because the fasteners would just melt away.

I was "Hannah" in the movie, "The Travelling Executioner." Stacy Keach had his first starring role in a movie. He was dating Judy Collins at the time. Does anyone have any additional information?

This is where the old Whitfield Pickle Company used to be. Pickles were stored in barrels somewhere in this area.

  • Approximate Boundries of Old Runway 15/33, DaveKilo wrote 16 years ago:
This runway was closed in 1980 to facilitate expansion of the corporate/general aviation hangar areas. It had been built in 1943 as part of the airport's original 3-runway layout. Its dimensions were 4,010' x 150', identical to Runway 3-21. By the late 1960s it had a landing threshold displaced 585' from its northwest end and it was restricted to light aircraft.

These are actually part of the old Whitfield Pickle Company. I was told these concrete circle pads were used in part of the pickle process.

We believe in the 2nd Amendment to the US Constitution, referred to as a part of the Bill of Rights: " A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. Used to go there when I was a teenager and rummage around. Found lots of overturned gravestones. Oddly, most all were childrens gravestones from early 1900s - late 1800s. I always wondered where they came from.
